The Rev. Guimond Pierre Louis is the assistant Rector at St. Peter’s in the Woods. He comes from the countryside of Haiti where he grew up with two courageous farmers as parents and 4 siblings.

Rev. G, as he prefers to be called, joins the congregation with his heart wide open to help lead, listen, and love gracefully while walking joyfully the journey of the Christian life. He considers love to be the “potomitan”, in creole, or cornerstone of his ministry. Love for God, for others, and for ourselves is the summary of the commandments we receive from Jesus and is Rev G’s roadmap to help people meet God as a community and as individuals.

His field education as a seminarian in Haiti revolved around youth and community outreach. He comes with the same spirit of love for Children and youth ministry to continue to serve God and young families and reach out to people and the community with a prayerful and caring presence. He is passionate about worshiping God and preaching in community as a way “to laud and magnify God’s holy name with the Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven” (BPC, 334), and also the best way to grow and strive together as Christians. Rev. G was ordained a transitional deacon at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port-au-Prince in November 2017 and to the priesthood at the Immanuel Chapel in Virginia in March 2019.

After completing two bachelor’s degrees at the Episcopal University in Port-au-Prince in Accounting and Theology, his academic journey has taken him to the US to complete a Graduate Certificate at Harford Seminary in Interfaith Dialogue and a Master’s degree at Virginia Theological Seminary in Religion and Culture; to Germany and Poland to study the holocaust and World War II with the FASPE fellowship program; to Switzerland for an intensive summer program in Inter-religious Studies at the University of Geneva; and to Oman for a Christian Muslim Dialogue course and intercultural immersion in the Middle East.

He credits everything he has come to learn in life to the foundational education he received and continues to receive from his family, his neighbors in the countryside of Haiti, and everyone he meets and works with: love, empathy, respect, the beauty of life, and with all the challenges in between.

Rev. G finds his balance by combining his love for ministry and watching movies, reading, working out, sleeping, and walking from time to time to clear his mind and be reminded of God’s presence in all things and contained by no things.
