DESCRIPTION:This Sunday\, our children will celebrate St. Nicholas Day! St. Nicholas was a 4th century bishop who is remembered for his special care of children and secret gift giving. In Europe\, children leave their shoes outside their doors for St. Nicholas to fill with chocolates. So on Sunday\, the Sunday School kids and those upstairs in church will be invited to take off their shoes and leave them in the hallway or Narthex so that St. Nicholas can leave them a treat! He’ll also visit our Sunday School classroom\, telling his story and talking with the kids about the importance of giving. Be sure to join us for a fun and meaningful day!

DESCRIPTION:Lenten Soup & Discussion Series\n6:00 – 7:30 p.m. \nJoin us for weekly soup and conversation as we prepare our hearts for the season of Lent\, a season that seems particularly heavy for many of us. To guide our time together\, we’ll be using a Lenten curriculum from Kate Bowler\, called The Hardest Part: Hurt We Carry\, Hope We Find. \nWe’ll meet at the church for a light soup supper\, followed by conversation and we’ll close with compline. Led by Rev. Susan and Betsy Marcelin. Running weekly through April. Let Rev. Susan know that you can make it!

DESCRIPTION:Kids & Families\,  Coming this Lent: Episcopal Communion Instructions for Children\nSeries Runs March 2 – March 23 \nOur Sunday School class will offer a 4-week series exploring Holy Communion in the Episcopal Church. While all baptized Christians (including children!) are welcome to receive communion in the church\, this age-appropriate series will help our kids learn about the sacrament of communion. Parents – this is a great opportunity for you to continue the conversation with your kids! We’ll send home materials each week from our curriculum\, called\, This Bread and This Cup. Series begins March 2 – March 23.

DESCRIPTION:Ash Wednesday Services at 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. \nOur Ash Wednesday service has its roots in the Old Testament\, where covering oneself with sackcloth and ashes was a sign of repentance and mourning. Early Christians also used sackcloth and ashes as a sign of their repentance. In 8th century Rome\, an antiphon was sung during the opening procession on the first day of Lent which mentioned putting on sackcloth and ashes. The Romans interpreted it spiritually\, but in Northern Europe the actual imposition of ashes was begun in order to give liturgical expression to the text. In 1091 a North Italian council ordered everyone to receive ashes “on Ash Wednesday.” \nThe meaning not only of the imposition of ashes but of the day itself is expressed both in the prayers said by the presider before the imposition of ashes and by the words used during it: “Remember that you are dust\, and to dust you shall return” (BCP 265).
